Pantnagar, September 24, 2026 — In a major step toward advancing grassroots innovation, capacity building, and rural development in agriculture and allied sectors, Govind Ballabh Pant University of Agriculture & Technology (GBPUAT) has signed a historic Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the WHEELS Global Foundation, USA.
The collaboration aims to accelerate the deployment of technology-based solutions and effectively implement research-backed innovations across rural India.

Empowering Students and Rural Communities
Speaking on the occasion, Vice-Chancellor Dr. Shivendra Kumar Kashyap highlighted that the partnership will redefine the university’s research, extension, and student training programs.
“This agreement will provide our students with valuable opportunities for hands-on, immersive training while working directly alongside rural communities,” noted Dr. Kashyap.
Virtual attendees from the WHEELS Global Foundation—including Shri Mayank Gandhi, Mr. Kisan Goenka, and Mr. Prasad Modak—expressed their enthusiasm for collaborating with India’s premier agricultural institution.
Framework of the Collaboration
Founded by IIT alumni, the WHEELS Global Foundation focuses on delivering tech-enabled solutions across six core areas: Water, Healthcare, Energy, Education, Livelihoods, and Sustainability.
From Lab to Grassroots Execution
Under this agreement, Pantnagar University’s research capabilities will merge with WHEELS’ extensive NGO and alumni networks to establish an end-to-end implementation pipeline:

WHEELS Global Foundation will provide network support, facilitate student internships, drive fieldwork, build public-private partnerships, and explore potential funding avenues.

Pantnagar University will lead the identification, evaluation, and piloting of rural-focused innovations, while setting research priorities for scalable execution.
Term & Attendance

Duration: The MoU is effective for three years, subject to annual renewals based on mutual agreement.
